Things To Do Thanksgiving Week in Savannah

When you’re ready to see what events you can enjoy once your belly is full of turkey, I suggest heading over to read my posts about Savannah in November and Savannah in December.

Many of Savannah’s top holiday events begin Thanksgiving week (the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, the city’s annual tree lighting, the Holiday Lights & Sights Trolley Tour, the Savannah Christmas Market, and December Nights & Lights at the Botanical Gardens), and those posts provide the scoop on all of them!

Fellow “Gilmore Girls” fans may remember when Luke snarkily pointed out that Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks “that we’re not Native Americans who got their land stolen in exchange for smallpox-infested blankets.” [video clip here]

On that note, if you’d like to spend some time this week learning about the indigenous peoples of Coastal Georgia, the best place to start is Massie Heritage Center.

If you prefer to spend the day volunteering, I suggest contacting the folks at Emmaus House to see if they need any assistance. They serve hundreds of meals daily to those in need within our community.
