Things To Do Thanksgiving Week in Savannah
When you’re ready to see what events you can enjoy once your belly is full of turkey, I suggest heading over to read my posts about Savannah in November and Savannah in December.
Many of Savannah’s top holiday events begin Thanksgiving week (the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, the city’s annual tree lighting, the Holiday Lights & Sights Trolley Tour, the Savannah Christmas Market, and December Nights & Lights at the Botanical Gardens), and those posts provide the scoop on all of them!
Fellow “Gilmore Girls” fans may remember when Luke snarkily pointed out that Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks that we’re “not Native Americans who got their land stolen in exchange for smallpox-infested blankets.” [video clip here]
On that note, if you’d like to spend some time this week learning about the indigenous peoples of Coastal Georgia, the best place to start is Massie Heritage Center.
If you prefer to spend the day volunteering, I suggest contacting the folks at Emmaus House to see if they need any assistance. They serve hundreds of meals daily to those in need within our community.

Good afternoon, my wife and I will be spending Thanksgiving in Savannah for 4 nights at the Perry Lane Hotel. Can you recommend a nice restaurants near this hotel?
How nice? The restaurant at 17Hundred90 Inn is fairly close, with a nice ambiance and good food. For slightly more casual restaurants, Wright Square Bistro (delicious!) and The Collins Quarter are both within easy walking distance. For a casual meal, try Urban Deli.
Thanks so much for this list, Erin! So helpful for our Thanksgiving trip to Savannah.
Hi Erin, is this an updated list?
Hi John! Yes, it’s updated for 2024, but I always suggest calling the restaurants to verify. Many of them are already booked and have been for weeks.
Deciding to visit either Thanksgiving or Christmas. What restaurants will serve dinner on both holidays?
Thank you so much Erin
The restaurants attached to hotels are usually the ones that stay open for both holidays. For example, the restaurants at the JW Marriott Plant Riverside or the ones at Thompson Savannah — there’s a good chance both could be open. I have a list for the ones open for Christmas, but I don’t usually update it until the restaurants release their Christmas hours. That usually happens in early November. Here’s that post: https://savannahfirsttimer.com/restaurants-open-christmas-savannah/
Hello. We have a family of 9. We were thinking of trying Common Thread – the take and bake. Do you know the cost ?
It’s approximately $350 if you order everything (the turkey and all sides). There’s a link in that section that leads to their site with all of the details! You can’t go wrong with Common Thread. It’s my favorite restaurant in Savannah for a nice meal 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving!
