Hi Erin!
I am currently living overseas and am looking at moving to the apartments near Montgomery and 31st (The Lowe & The Addie.) I’ve had multiple people drive by and they have differing opinions. What is your take? 🙂
Hi Claudia! That area has changed/improved quite a bit in recent years. SPD’s Central Precinct location was moved to 33rd and Montgomery about 5 years ago. When that happened, developers snatched up land and started building housing in the area geared towards SCAD students. Having a police precinct nearby is a selling point to trick new residents and SCAD parents into thinking it’s a safer location. Safer locations = higher rents. It’s still downtown Savannah, though. Frazier Homes (low-income housing) is nearby, and there are a decent number of shootings and crime issues there. If you’re accustomed to city life you should be fine. Keep your car doors locked and valuables hidden away. Be situationally aware (especially late at night). It’s very easy to walk or bike to restaurants and attractions from there. It’s also great that it’s so close to Forsyth Park!
The April 3, 2023 death was a homicide, shooting. The incident was never reported by SPD as a shooting or a homicide. It was barely mentioned by SPD or the media as a “death” and nothing more. SPD/media didnt ask the community for information regarding the incident, no saying someone was murdered at their home, just a brief mention of a death and moved on.
Do you have additional information? A link to an article, the cross streets where it occurred, an approximate time, etc? I can look into it further, but I’d need more details than just the date.
