Savannah in May: Events, Weather, and What’s Blooming!

Are you planning to visit Savannah in May and wondering what to expect? I can help! I’ve created a handy list of the top events happening this month, and I tried to include a little something for every type of traveler.

Savannah Weather and the Flowers in May

The temperature during May is usually warm. It feels like summer, even at the beginning of the month. Expect high temps in the upper 80s and low 90s. The early morning hours are usually pleasant.

As far as plants go, May is when you’ll spot our famous Southern magnolias! Agapanthus, hydrangeas, and crepe myrtles also start blooming this month.

Top Events for the Month

The biggest annual event during May is SCAD’s commencement ceremony.

Please keep in mind that the city will be packed that weekend, so it’s best to book accommodations and make reservations at Savannah’s most popular restaurants well in advance.

If you’re headed to Tybee Island, SCAD’s popular Sand Arts Festival is this month, too.

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, so I’ve included a few events focused on Jewish heritage in Savannah and noted them with a blue heart emoji.
