Savannah in July: Events, the Heat, and What’s Blooming!

The Weather, Hurricanes, and Flowers Blooming in July

July is hot and humid with a slight chance of hurricanes, so keep that in mind. Highs are usually in the 90s, with “feels like” temps reaching into the 100s.

Plan outdoor activities during the morning hours, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and apply sunscreen throughout the day. Expect daily pop-up thunderstorms and possible flooding.

As for what’s blooming, hydrangeas and crepe myrtles are a safe bet.

Top Events This Month

The 4th of July fireworks celebration along River Street is the biggest event of the month. Comic Con also happens during July.

I’ve arranged the events below by date to help you find them easily. Fourth of July events are marked with a fireworks icon (🎉).

NOTE REGARDING JULY 4TH: Most of the rooftop bars with waterfront views offer VIP parties for the 4th. Entry is usually $50+ and you need to book well in advance. Rooftop bars with views of the fireworks over the water include Bar Julian, Lavender Rooftop Bar, Top Deck Bar, Myrtle & Rose, Rocks on the Roof, The Lost Square, and Electric Moon. You can view the fireworks from anywhere along River Street, but they’re launched directly in front of the Savannah Convention Center near Rousakis Plaza. They start at approximately 9:30 p.m., but plan to arrive much earlier to find parking and a good viewing spot.
