If you’re planning to visit Savannah in January, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding accommodations or getting seated at popular restaurants. It’s a slow month for tourism.

January is also a slow month for major annual events, and it’s when many businesses choose to take breaks for maintenance or to enjoy some time off.

For example, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room closes for all of January and Starland Yard goes on Winter Break the third week of the month.

Savannah Weather in January

January is the coldest month of the year, so it brings the best chance for snow and below freezing temps. (Snow is very rare in Savannah, though!)

Plan to pack layers and check your weather app a few days before your trip to see if you’ll need a heavy winter coat or if you can get by with something lighter.

The annual parade celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is the month’s biggest event, and it’ll be held on Monday, January 19th in 2026.

The event I’m most excited about this month is the Savannah Photo Walk on the 18th!
