I hate to break it to you, but Savannah is pretty miserable in August. Even if you plan to spend the majority of your time on the water, expect the weather to feel hot and swampy!
You might want to check out the top annual events in Savannah if you’re considering visiting during a different month (which I wholeheartedly recommend).

August Weather Brings Heat, Humidity, and Hurricanes
I cannot overstate how uncomfortably hot it is in August in Savannah.
Many locals choose to leave during August, and a few tour guides even take a break from providing outdoor tours this month.
For example, Bonaventure Don and Jonathan at Architectural Tours of Savannah both usually go on break during the month.
There’s a solid chance of pop up thunderstorms every afternoon, and August is when hurricane season ramps up, so I strongly suggest purchasing travel insurance for hurricanes.
If you opt for outdoor activities, try to do them during the morning hours. Wear sunscreen, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
For detailed weather information, check out my in-depth guide to Savannah’s weather each month.
Top Events in August
Major events aren’t typically scheduled during August. It’s too hot, and the weather is too iffy.
However, the SCAD Museum of Art offers free entry throughout the month to all active-duty military personnel and their families. That’s a good way to spend some time indoors while enjoying the air conditioning!
Organizers may change an event’s location, date, or time on short notice, so please double-check the links before heading out to an event! I’m good about keeping this list updated, but sometimes last-minute changes happen.
