April is a fantastic time to visit Savannah!
There are a few major annual events, such as the Savannah Music Festival, SCAD’s popular Sidewalk Arts Festival, and the NOGS Tour of Hidden Gardens.
It’s also an ideal month to head outdoors, enjoy the mild weather, and soak up some sunshine before it gets too hot and humid.

Savannah Weather in April
Temperatures start to rise during April, so expect warm afternoons bookended by pleasant mornings and evenings. There are usually only 6 or 7 days with any noticeable rainfall.
Weather-wise, you couldn’t really ask for a better time!
The only real complaint for the month is some lingering pollen that might affect your allergies.

The Savannah Music Festival, SCAD Sidewalk Arts Festival, Publix Women’s 5k, and NOGS Tour of Hidden Gardens are the biggest events during the month.
If your travel dates coincide with those, I suggest booking your hotel or home rental early and making reservations at the most well-known restaurants as soon as possible.

We are trying to coordinate a trip to Savannah in the spring of 2027.
Tops on our list are beautiful flowers and the Purple Gallinule.
I’ve done some research and it seems fairly likely to see Purple Gallinule at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge in April but if we go too early in March we may not get to see it.
We also like it cooler so going in May; probably too hot for us.
What could we hope to see for flowers in the city if we visited the first week in April?

Sometimes you can catch the tail end of azalea season in April, but it depends on when they started blooming (if they start early in the season, they’ll be gone by April). You can usually see jasmine during April! It smells heavenly. Dogwoods should be blooming then, too, as well as the Chinese fringe trees. The Spanish moss in all the oak trees actually gets tiny little blossoms on it, and that generally happens during April.
If you wait until May, you’ll see jasmine. The hydrangeas start blooming then, too. Overall, though, May is for magnolias! That’s when you see the huge magnolia blossoms that are bigger than your hands.
