I try to post as many helpful tips as possible on this site. With that in mind, here’s the inside scoop on free parking in Savannah!
As a general rule, you can count on metered street parking to be free on the holidays when the Mobility and Parking Services offices are closed.
Feel free to double check the City of Savannah’s Mobility and Parking Services website if you doubt me, but I always verify the info I include on this website!

Parking Holidays in Savannah in 2026
Metered street parking is free all day on the following holidays in 2026…

In a hurry?
Here’s a quick breakdown of free parking:
Metered street parking is free on Sundays.
Metered street parking is free south of Gaston Street.
Street parking north of Liberty Street is free after 8 p.m. Mon-Sat.
Street parking south of Liberty Street is free after 5 p.m. Mon-Fri.
Parking is free in the lots in Forsyth Park (90-minute time limit).
Free Parking on Sundays
Metered street parking is free throughout Savannah on Sundays.
NOTE: If you’re using the Park Savannah mobile app on a Sunday and type in a parking space number only to get an error message that says “space not available” — have no fear! The space is available, but you don’t need to pay for it.
They really need to make it clearer on the mobile app that you can park and won’t owe anything.
It shows the same error message on holidays.
The Park Savannah app is available from the App Store or Google Play.
Free Parking in Downtown Savannah
A good general rule in downtown Savannah is that you’ll find more free parking the further south you go (away from River Street) or the further east you go (where it’s more residential).
Free Parking South of Gaston Street
Gaston Street is located in the southern section of the Historic District. It’s the street that borders the northernmost end of Forsyth Park.
Metered street parking south of Gaston Street is free daily.
Free Parking in Forsyth Park
In addition to free street parking on the streets surrounding the park, there are also two parking lots within Forsyth Park where you can park for free.
Access the first lot from Park Street along the southeast side of the park near the tennis courts.
Access the second lot from Drayton Street near Hotel Bardo and Collins Quarter restaurant.
Free Parking on the East Side of the Historic District
Many areas on the more residential east side of the Historic District offer free street parking.
For example, you can park on the street for free around Troup and Whitefield squares and on the streets to the east of those squares.
You can also park for free on streets beginning one block east of Taylor Square and Lafayette Square.
Free Parking South of Liberty Street
Once 5 p.m. rolls around on the weekdays, you can park for free in any metered street spots south of Liberty Street.
That’s handy if you want to take an evening stroll through the southern section of the Historic District or dine at some of the top restaurants in the area.
I suggest Urban Deli or Crystal Beer Parlor!
Free Parking During December
To encourage Christmas shopping during the holiday season, Savannah’s parking garages offer free parking from noon to 8:00 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday in December.

Free Parking in the Victorian District
Currently, most street parking in the Victorian District is free.
Free Parking in the Starland District
Currently, most street parking in the Starland District (also known as the Thomas Square Streetcar District) is free.
However, I live in this district, and there is talk of paid parking in the pipeline.
Stay tuned! I’ll update this post when I have more info.
If the parking situation does change, I imagine the areas that will see paid parking first will be the areas closest to Starland Yard.
I’m hoping areas on the outskirts of the district will remain free — at least for a few more years.
Free Parking in Eastern Wharf
Since Eastern Wharf is a touristy area near the waterfront, there’s very little free parking.
Metered street parking is free from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (overnight hours), but you’ll have to pay to park during the daytime.
Metered street parking is free on Sundays.
Free Parking in the Plant Riverside District
Much like Eastern Wharf, you’re going to have a hard time finding free parking in the Plant Riverside District.
You can do metered street parking for free from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (overnight hours), but you’ll have to pay to park during the daytime hours.
Metered street parking is free on Sundays.
Free Parking at Enmarket Arena
I generally don’t recommend parking at the arena.
It’s better to park downtown in the Savannah Civic Center lot and then take the shuttles to and from the arena. The shuttles only cost $5-$10.
